Happy Feet

Do you like my new socks?

Aren't they a vision of beauty?

As you know, I'm no knitter.  They were made for me by my wonderful multi-talented friend Ali.  (It was Ali who knitted my Robin Wristees.)

Self-striping yarn fascinates me.  It's too clever.

They're not just aesthetically pleasing, the yarn (Bluefaced Leicester) is lovely against your skin and keeps your pinkies toasty warm.  It's name, Mind The Gap, is pure genius and was apparently inspired by the London Underground.  You can find out more about it here on Ravelry

It comes to something when your children see you lying on your bed in your pyjamas with your bottom propped up on a pillow and legs akimbo, trying to take a photograph, and don't even bat an eyelid!

They have, however, threatened to disown me if I venture out in public in my new socks.  I'm thinking white sandals ...

Please note, this is not a sponsored post but an appreciation of British yarn and, most especially, darling friends.  Oh, and fabulous socks! X

  1. I love your socks, they remind me a bit of the illustrations in the Pippy Longstocking books. I would love to make some but my knitting skills just aren't up to socks, I can only knit squares. I too am fascinated by self-striping yarn, seen a few things made up in it lately. Enjoy your socks. Oh, and definitely white sandals! :o)

  3. Lovely colours! I wish I could knit but I just can't get the hang of it. I've got a theory that you can be either a knitter or a crocheter - but not both!

    1. The stitches are teeny tiny, Ingrid. I'm convinced my socks were actually made by magical elves and not Ali at all! x

  5. They are fantastic, that Ali is so so clever! Because of her knitting these socks on IG I've been stalking the website of this stripy yarn lady to get a skein!!!
My children no longer bat an eyelid to my photographing mad things!

  6. Wow!!! Fancy feet! Those socks are A-MAY-ZING! Your friend is quite the knitter, the yarn is super duper (self-striping yarn fascinates and mildly scares me, I am certain sorcery is involved) and you most definitely need to wear them out! With white sandals indeed...Chrissie x

  7. My oh my, those are some pretty fancy socks. How lovely of Ali to make them for you. I'd love to knit socks, it's one of my goals, but the whole load of pointy needle thingy scares me! One day. I have some crochet sock patterns which are alright I suppose, but that's where knitting comes into its own.

    Nice Pj's too!

Have a lovely week my friend xxxxx

  8. Fantastic socks - and I think they deserve to be seen in public. It is our job as parents to embarrass our children. Lets be honest, just breathing is embarrassing for them, so every so often, I try and make it worthwhile! ;) x

    1. I dreamt about you last week, Caroline. You were driving a bright blue truck and pulling a trailer of the same colour. You took a corner too quickly and spun the whole thing around. I rushed over to help and offered you a crumbling Yorkie bar to make you feel better!!! x

  24. Goodness, your friend is a talented knitter! I can knit - slowly and poorly - but the thought of knitting socks sends me into a panic. Which is a shame as I have such a thing about self striping yarn and would love to be able to knit myself a pair one day. That yarn is fabulous, and I love the name. x
