Do you like my new socks?
Aren't they a vision of beauty?
As you know, I'm no knitter. They were made for me by my wonderful multi-talented friend Ali. (It was Ali who knitted my Robin Wristees.)
Self-striping yarn fascinates me. It's too clever.
They're not just aesthetically pleasing, the yarn (Bluefaced Leicester) is lovely against your skin and keeps your pinkies toasty warm. It's name, Mind The Gap, is pure genius and was apparently inspired by the London Underground. You can find out more about it here on Ravelry.
It comes to something when your children see you lying on your bed in your pyjamas with your bottom propped up on a pillow and legs akimbo, trying to take a photograph, and don't even bat an eyelid!
They have, however, threatened to disown me if I venture out in public in my new socks. I'm thinking white sandals ...

Please note, this is not a sponsored post but an appreciation of British yarn and, most especially, darling friends. Oh, and fabulous socks! X
I love your socks, they remind me a bit of the illustrations in the Pippy Longstocking books. I would love to make some but my knitting skills just aren't up to socks, I can only knit squares. I too am fascinated by self-striping yarn, seen a few things made up in it lately. Enjoy your socks. Oh, and definitely white sandals! :o)

oohhh those socks are devine, I bet they make your heart skip a beat :-) Loving the fact your kids didn't bat an eye lid :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely colours! I wish I could knit but I just can't get the hang of it. I've got a theory that you can be either a knitter or a crocheter - but not both!
ReplyDeleteHelen x
Your friend must be an awesome knitter - those socks don't even look handmade, so perfect !! And the colours are lovely :-)
ReplyDeleteThe stitches are teeny tiny, Ingrid. I'm convinced my socks were actually made by magical elves and not Ali at all! x
DeleteThey are fantastic, that Ali is so so clever! Because of her knitting these socks on IG I've been stalking the website of this stripy yarn lady to get a skein!!!
ReplyDeleteMy children no longer bat an eyelid to my photographing mad things!
Wow!!! Fancy feet! Those socks are A-MAY-ZING! Your friend is quite the knitter, the yarn is super duper (self-striping yarn fascinates and mildly scares me, I am certain sorcery is involved) and you most definitely need to wear them out! With white sandals indeed...Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteSorcery. Yes, definitely!!! x
DeleteI love them x
ReplyDeleteMy oh my, those are some pretty fancy socks. How lovely of Ali to make them for you. I'd love to knit socks, it's one of my goals, but the whole load of pointy needle thingy scares me! One day. I have some crochet sock patterns which are alright I suppose, but that's where knitting comes into its own.
ReplyDeleteNice Pj's too!
Have a lovely week my friend xxxxx
Fantastic socks - and I think they deserve to be seen in public. It is our job as parents to embarrass our children. Lets be honest, just breathing is embarrassing for them, so every so often, I try and make it worthwhile! ;) x
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! My daughter recently told me off for having such noisy jewellery! Wha??? ;-) x
DeleteSelf-striping yarn? Now that's a new concept in my world....how is that possible, my brain hurts just trying to compute it!! That said, they are gorgeous and you should definitely wear them out ;-))))
ReplyDeleteLove Caroline xxx
I dreamt about you last week, Caroline. You were driving a bright blue truck and pulling a trailer of the same colour. You took a corner too quickly and spun the whole thing around. I rushed over to help and offered you a crumbling Yorkie bar to make you feel better!!! x
Deletelovely - I have a skein of this yarn, it is so beautiful I feel I need to wait until I can knit socks perfectly before I try
ReplyDeleteYour socks are completely gorgeous! So cheery...wear them with pride...with sandals or not!
ReplyDeleteMarianne x
I think they are brilliant, Heather!! I love wearing quirky socks especially with a pair of jeans and converse low shoes. I love crossing my legs when I'm sitting so that my socks can be seen....... :-))
ReplyDeleteI would definitely wear them out. Pati xx
Pati, you're wonderful! x
DeleteSuch gorgeous socks! And I love your photos very much too, Heather!
ReplyDeleteHelen xox
Oh wow they are stunning! I love that yarn lots, I must give sock knitting a go xx
ReplyDeleteThey are a thing of beauty! So cheerful, how could anyone feel sad wearing those Happy Socks!
ReplyDeleteI can't work out the stripes fall in the right place with that stripy yarn? Does my head in as I'm no knitter!
Gill xx
I love those socks Heather, and I love your PJ's too! Your children are great! xo Joy
ReplyDeleteLove those gorgeous happy socks!! You'll need them on this chilly soggy day....in Spring!
ReplyDeleteI've got fluffy pink ones on.....sadly not homemade, like Vanessa I'm scared by more than two pointy needles at once!

Genius Lucy! The see-through glittery ones - now I LOVE those!
DeleteFunny thing is, my socks make me think of you. Can't imagine why! ;-) x
It's gorgeous yarn isn't it! I've been thinking for ages that I'd like to track some down. And how wonderful to have a friend who knits so beautifully. I'd be wearing them out if it were me, why not?!
ReplyDeleteWow! Is that really self striping yarn ??? Miraculous! Aside from the fact that I love those socks, I now must buy that yarn just for the sheer impressiveness of it!
ReplyDeleteps found you whilst blog-hopping, I'm a fairly new blogger, would be great to see you over at emeraldcottage.blogspot.co.uk :) xx
Hi there, just catching up! Love the socks, such great colours and the beautiful photos around Cornwall in your previous post - just stunning in fact!! Hope that you are having a good weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loved this post!!!!!!! Lush lush lush socks and I adore the PJs. I neeeeeeed them, where are they from? x x x x x
ReplyDeletePrimark, love! x
DeleteOh gosh Heather, you're so wonderfully fun!!! I love those new socks your friend knitted up! xo
ReplyDeleteGoodness, your friend is a talented knitter! I can knit - slowly and poorly - but the thought of knitting socks sends me into a panic. Which is a shame as I have such a thing about self striping yarn and would love to be able to knit myself a pair one day. That yarn is fabulous, and I love the name. x
