I was sitting on the back door step as the clock neared midnight on the last day of 2017. Both children were out so it was just me and my cup of tea. For the very first time in my 46 years on earth, I was to greet the new year alone.
With hindsight, my word for 2017 should have been 'acceptance'. I had no choice but to accept the huge changes in my lifePink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com56tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-84880201387066488692017-09-29T20:48:00.000+01:002017-10-07T08:54:15.321+01:00Under The Walnut Tree
I've been seeing a counsellor for the last few months. She knows about my blog and that I've been wanting to return to it for a little while. She also knows that I've not been quite sure how. Is it actually as simple as cropping back up with prettily-staged pictures and woolly waffle; making no mention of what's happened in the last seventeen months? Can I Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com126tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-89155693057991547032017-02-04T10:18:00.001+00:002017-02-04T17:54:32.020+00:00I Did My Best
It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you I am closing my little pink yarn shop with immediate effect. I have done my very best in circumstances which have personally devastated me but I simply cannot sustain it financially or emotionally any more. So much has changed since I signed the lease exactly one year ago.
I will be gradually listing all of my stock in my Etsy Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com109tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-90698262741157297822016-12-31T14:32:00.001+00:002016-12-31T14:35:24.548+00:00Looking Forward
Christmas is a funny time of year. It's a time when everything seems amplified somehow. If you are at one with yourself and surrounded by those that you truly love, it's a magical time. A day of happy togetherness. If, for whatever reason, all is not well with your world, it's a real toughie.
We had a Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com30tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-86904015047479780602016-11-12T07:49:00.000+00:002016-11-12T07:49:04.945+00:00Six Months
Six months ago I opened the door to my little pink yarn shop for the very first time.
I had every intention of sharing the experience with you dear friends but unforeseen events thwarted that particular plan. I don't mind telling you, the last six months have been a bit of a bugger! The most difficult of my entire life. You see,Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com38tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-61239892001634070082016-09-14T21:10:00.001+01:002019-07-02T10:56:35.062+01:00Pink Milk Palette
Quite often someone will wander into my shop, attracted purely by the colours. They can be quite apologetic about the fact that they neither knit nor crochet. When I've pointed out the error of their ways in no uncertain terms (not really!), I'm quite happy to let them have as much of a colour fix as they'd like. Apparently sweet shops can have the same effect on even Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-43632018621493159342016-08-22T08:23:00.001+01:002016-08-22T08:23:11.534+01:00In Response

The shop has gone very quiet. I think most people are off on their holibobs. It seems a good time to close for a while and perhaps creep away for my own little break. I shall reopen on Friday 5th August 2016.

I woke up this morning with a lightness in my heart that I haven't felt for months. It's now 7pm and it's still there.
I actually have more control over all this than I realised, don't I?
I'm smiling because I'm ready. I'm ready to make it happen.

Because, let's face it, if I was anything other than honest, I wouldn't be me, would I?
I love the pretty things in life just as much as you. I am naturally a self-confident, glass-half-full kind of girl. I see beauty in the little things. I am inspired by creativity. I love fiercely and life is a joy.

Hello my lovely friends. I do hope this long overdue post finds you happy and well?
Well, I only bloody did it! I only opened my very own little yarn shop! It's been exactly one week now and, truth be known, it still feels a bit surreal. I can't really remember the details of the first few days; they were a bit Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com84tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-24458996798672011842016-03-25T10:04:00.000+00:002016-04-08T04:46:13.231+01:00Best Laid Plans
I fell over on Wednesday. Splat! Just like that. It was my own silly fault; I was running with Bertie on the lead. He zigzagged in front of me and down I went. My right knee has swollen up like a purple tennis ball and my left hand is covered in scrapes and cuts. It's a bit of a shock when you fall over as a grown-up. It's not supposed to happen. &Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com32tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-73173950945289604042016-03-14T07:44:00.000+00:002016-03-14T07:44:03.540+00:00This And That And Shop Chat
I've been testing out my "hellos". There's a slightly high-pitched one that is bordering on desperate, there's one that's a bit sing-songy and makes my children curl up with embarrassment, there's one that makes me sound like an 8 year old and there's my slightly husky one that is, frankly, a touch creepy. Slowly, slowly my little shop is starting to look how I imagined it might.
It's been such hard work and I haven't been this tired for ages but, hand on heart, I've enjoyed every single minute. Well, almost. There has been the odd grotty bit. That floor has been in a pain in the posterior. Back in December, I eluded to an adventure I was about to embark on.
It sort of started with a stroll down a road close to where I live in Leicester, on a very wet day. This road is lined with 19th century terraced houses, most of which have been converted into small independent shops and eateries.
When I was a child, I used to spend my pocket money on glittery stickers, torn from a Pink Milkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05664644078460614884noreply@blogger.com140tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6044399031300661767.post-85656938808730298862016-01-22T13:48:00.001+00:002016-01-22T14:02:11.369+00:00Next Week Might Be Awesome, Right?
Hello my lovelies. I hope you're well.
Apparently last Monday was 'Blue Monday', the most depressing day of the year. What a load of old rubbish. Marketing ploys like that really irritate me and serve only to further deflate those of us who find the whole month a battle.

Hello and a very happy shiny New Year to you!
I'm a little late to the party I know but, to be perfectly honest, it's taken me a while to get back into any sort of rhythm after the festive break. Well, I think we're almost there. The children finish school tomorrow and we're all really looking forward to the break. We are, of course, going to Cornwall for Christmas so it does make life easier in some ways. In some ways it doesn't. Two grown-ups, two teenagers and one daft spaniel don't travel light. You'd have loved my Gran. Everybody did. She was tall, elegant, extremely sociable and as mad as a box of frogs. Last March, I had a bit of a wappy and filled a big charity bag with, it has to be said, a large proportion of my winter wardrobe. Anything I considered 'mumsy', I hurled into this bag. It was all very liberating. From what I've heard this is not a terribly unusual thing for a woman in her early forties to do.
