January Sucks

I'm in a bit of an early January funk so won't stay long.

When I'm Queen, there won't be a January.  I shall erase it from the calendar.

Where are we, the 5th?  Well I've had enough already.

January sucks.

Anyway, I wanted to quickly show you my imaginatively-named 'January Infinity Scarf' now that it is finished.

It actually began life here in, ahem, June 2013!  Goodness knows what I originally intended it to be; June seems an unlikely month to start a scarf, even for me.

For whatever reason, not long after this photograph, I must have carefully rolled it up and popped it in my WIP bag and there it stayed for eighteen months.  Unloved and unfinished.  (Ashamed much?)

Until last week.

I like it.  I like it a lot.  In fact, I'm wearing it now, as I type.

The deets if you're interested …

Yarn : Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino.
Hook : 4mm (and 4.5mm hook for foundation chain).
Stitch : Half treble (half double US).
Construction : 30 (& 2 for turning) stitches wide x 20 rows for each colour.  11 colours in total.  Scarf measures approximately 64 inches in length.  Double crochet (single crochet US) last row and first row together, wrong sides facing.  Weave in ends (bonus points if you crocheted them in as and when you changed colours!).

Edited to add : see following post for the exact colours I used.

  1. I'm with you about January. It felt like the middle of the night when I had to get up this morning.
I finished a scarf last night and had meant to take some photos today - maybe tomorrow? Who knows. I blink - and I've missed the daylight! happy 2015. x

  4. Gorgeous scarf - I absolutely love the colours! I, too, am working on a scarf that I started last January. I have decided I MUST finish my WIPs before I am allowed to start any new projects (except charity projects), so I may just be wearing my scarf before summer arrives. But I am not holding my breath...

  5. It's very pretty. I love to crochet that way, with wide stripes of one color at a time. I'm working on a blanket like this right now, actually.

  8. Oh I've just discovered Debbie Bliss Eco baby and I'm in love! So very soft. January gets to me sometimes as well. This year I'm helped along because my daughter's birthday is this month and it gives me something to look forward to and crochet for. Good luck with your winter blues! And I love your scarf!

  11. It can suck if you let it , get outdoors , look for colour or as you have already done ... make your own colour . My birthday is in January so if you become queen and get rid of it does that mean I'll be ageless ? :-)

  14. Gorgeous scarf, the colours are beautiful. January makes spring and summer seem even more wonderful I think. I like the rest from the high energy of summer. Like a tree, I have a little rest in the winter. Evenings in front of the television, afternoons spent baking. Of course, all of the busy stuff has to be done too, but it's not quite as manic as when the garden and the allotment are growing like mad. So I'm making the most of it. I hope it passes quickly for you. CJ xx

  16. I like January - besides, my birthday is the last day of the month. For me January is new starts and permission to hole up inside by the fire and crochet! I'm sorry that January makes so many unhappy. I understand - super hot humid weather makes me miserable. I just found your blog. Each January I make a concerted effort to erase five blogs from my following list (it's not hard, there are some I chose to follow but never really connect with - I finally just allow myself to remove them from my reading list) and add five new ones. Finding new blogs is harder. I have found two just today - by complete happenchance. I found yours on pinterest. January Joy! for two new blogs to read and follow - hope the next 26 days bring you some sort of happiness at least until it's February! Sher

  20. Bah to January! The weather seems so much more dark and dismal than just two weeks ago. Love the colours in the infinity scarf. Well done!

  21. The only good thing about January is that it does mean that there are 12 months before the end of the year instead of just 11 so I do get a bit more time to get all those jobs finished! I love your scarf, the colours are wonderful, so lovely and muted and yet colourful too! I hope that January passes quickly for you and that you enjoy February! xx

  27. You've made a great scarf out of your abandoned project and I love the colours, but please don't get rid of January when you are Queen, because although I have to agree it's a short of rubbishy month it's also when my birthday happens!
